President Obama Appoints CTO of the U.S.

First it was Queen Elizabeth, then it was Pope Benedict XVI.

So how are you keeping up with the Joneses in Washington?

In his Weekly Address today, President Barack Obama announced the appointment of the first Chief Technology Officer of the United States appointing  Aneesh Chopra to “promote technological innovation to help achieve our most urgent priorities…”

…today, we simply cannot afford to perpetuate a system in Washington… where outdated technology and information systems undermine efficiency, threaten our security, and fail to serve an engaged citizenry.

Political Will
It used to be that government lacked the political will and budget priorities to actually “lead” its citizenry. It historically would allow cultural and technological change in the public sector to come at the expense of private sector investment in commercial and consumer products and services.

My how times have changed: Her Royal Highness twits and His Holiness vblogs.

Now, the U.S. has positioned itself to be managed with the efficiency of an Silicon Valley technology corporation.

Our world’s governmental leaders have adapted their communication models to better connect and serve their citizenry.

No More Fence Sitting
How will you explore today’s Web 2.0 technologies? Where does your business fit into the online community? Which social media utilities will you use to connect your business to you customer base?

No more “keeping up.” It’s time to move ahead.
