What is an author and a publisher in the digital age?

The former is easy to answer; someone who creates. A writer, a novelist, a poet, a law maker, a painter, software engineer. But what is a publisher? Simply put, one who makes something public.

Publishing has changed dramatically with the advent of email and then text messaging, websites, blogs, twitter and now ebooks. Each of these platforms enables us to reach more and more people with our content. this has dramatically disrupted the traditional publishing industry much like

So who is the publisher?

You. The role of publisher has moved from the traditional model of a company or press that reproduces an author’s printed content for public distribution.

For the solopreneur or writer, its publishing your novel via twitter, a blog, and a print on demand service like Lulu, Createspace, Blurb or Scribd. Creation and mass public distribution has never before existed on the scale as it does today.

The author of today is the publisher.
